Lauren was 11 months old on Monday, and if you are, or ever have been, the mother of an 11-month old, you will understand why I am just now getting around to this post on Thursday! :)
Lauren is beginning to assert her independence quite a bit, which is resulting in some power struggles with mommy. Unfortunately (for Lauren) mommy wins.
For example, Lauren does not want to lay on her back for a diaper change and tries to flip around like a crazy contortionist. If and when she manages to escape before I get the new diaper on, she crawls lightning fast across the room with her naked bottom in the air. Cute, yes. But when she has a poopy diaper, not so cute! Also, Lauren would really like to feed herself. She grabs the spoon each and every time it comes near her mouth. (she is eating a lot of finger foods for the record) Problem: She's not great at getting the spoon loaded with food into her mouth before it spills all over the place. Messy, messy!
While she wants to be independent with these types of things, she has become super-clingy and whiny, especially if she doesn't get a long enough nap!! And please do not think of putting her on the floor to play while cooking dinner, she protests loudly!! (don't worry, this is an example of when she doesn't get her way!!)
She is also VERY interested in books right now. Especially lift the flap books, which she must, of course, lift by herself. She also likes to turn the pages in board books. This is fun for me, because I love books and love to read!!
Her toys, though, not so much. She doesn't really care too much for any toys...she likes to explore everything she can get her little hands on!!
She eats a couple of jars of baby food a day because she still has ZERO teeth. So I try to give her as much table food as I can, but she can't really eat things that are too hard or chewy. She ate some chicken pot pie last week and this week she ate chicken and rice (yes, we eat a lot of chicken!). After trying about 7 different types of sippy cups, she seems to like the Nuby ones that are like $2 each. How nice. Too bad I bought all the other more expensive kinds first!!
She is still taking two naps and sleeping about 11-12 hours at night. And when she gets tired, she gets TIRED. I try to put her to bed ASAP if the yawning and whining begins. Guess it's all the extra energy she is exerting getting into EVERYTHING!!
She can say "mama", "dada" and "bye-bye" and she signs "more" (well, she kinda claps her hands together, but it's close). She also waves "bye-bye" , has started pointing her finger at things, and will hold her hands up in the air if you ask "How big is Lauren?" (so big!) :) Which I think is adorable, and my mom said I did this as a baby all the time.
I am starting to sort of worry about weaning, because she doesn't seem to love the idea of milk from a cup. We may have to go to a bottle of milk first. Hmmm...any suggestions?
We can't believe how much our little girl is growing and are in denial of the fact that she will be 1 in less than a month!
Here are a couple of recent pics. (She is definately becoming a daddy's girl!)
"More"
her silly smile!
best seat in the house!

It's fine to wean to a bottle of milk! Also, keep the other sippies. She will be able to use them when she has a little more practice, and you might want to switch to those. The Nuby-type cups are good for learning, but they are really bad about leaking, especially because the slits in the silicone start to tear. Just my 2 cents. :)
it took Ryland a few weeks to actually understand how to hold the sippy cup and how to drink out of it. just keep practicing with her and she'll get it. I tried giving her a bottle (which was just as new to her as the sippy cup) and we think it sped up the 'figuring it out' process.
Lauren is such a big girl now! I love hearing about how she is growing. It's amazing how much they change from day to day, week to week. It's so fun to have a friend whose child is only a day older than Emma!
