Today started off with Lauren and I taking mom for a follow-up appointment with her Primary Care doctor.
In the pouring, freezing rain.
Doesn't sound too bad, right?
Except for the fact that mom is pretty much wheel-chair bound until her cast comes off. So I have to push my mom in the wheelchair, with Lauren on her lap (I will have to get a picture!) in the pouring, freezing rain up to the doctor's office.
Fun times.
By the time we got back to mom's condo to drop her off, my stomach started to feel sorta "crampy." (for lack of a better word). Within 15 minutes, this turned into almost paralizing pain. I was literally lying on the floor at mom's condo thinking I was about to die.
If I was a "crier" or a "screamer", I would have been doing both. But I really didn't want to scare Lauren half to death. She was watching cartoons with mom and kept coming over to give me kisses. :) I ended up making mom call Jason and ask him to come home from work so he could watch Lauren and I could try to lay down and hope the pain went away.
Unfortunately, the pain was getting worse and I really was begining to think that I was going to die. (and I have a very high threshhold for pain!) Jason made mom call 911 and I got a fun ride in an ambulance for the first time. Then I ended up in the ER for the first time. (the only time I've ever stayed in the hospital was when I was born and when Lauren was born!!)
By then, I was in so much pain, I didn't care where they took me, as long as it helped the pain go away. I also threw up for the first time ever (which I later found out happens when your body is in a lot of pain). I literally had to ask Jason HOW to throw up, because I was so nauseous and didn't know what to do.
After what seemed like forever, they started an IV with some morphine and anti-nausea medicine and took me down for my first ever CT scan. By the time I got back to the room, the medicine was kicking in and I felt a little better.
We found out that I have a kidney stone and that it had moved from my kidney towards my bladder and that is what caused all the pain. Apparently, once it makes it's happy little way into my bladder, I'm "home free" and it will "pass." Until then, I'm on a "cocktail" of oxycodone, phenergan and flomax (which they give to old men to help with prostate issues). Apparently, it helps you pee a lot!
What an exciting day it has been. I felt bad for Jason, who has never really seen me in pain (seriously, this was worse than labor) (before the epidural). The doctor at the ER said that she has seen grown men cry from kidney stones, and that they can be extremely painful.
For now, I will continue my diet of insane amounts of clear liquids and pray that this happy little kidney stone decides to exit my body in the near future!! Will you pray too?? :)
