Tongue Tied no more!

So a few of my "many" readers may know that we had Lauren's tongue clipped a few weeks ago. She was born "tongue tied", but it was not severe. It acutally didn't affect her ability to nurse or eat solids, etc. and it has never really seemed to bother her. At her 9 month check up, our pediatrician recommended that we have it clipped before she was a year to avoid speech problems later on. I made an appointment with one of the surgeons in town and was assured that his was a "minor" outpatient procedure and that I had nothing to worry about. HA!!

Did they realize they were talking to a MOMMY? We worry about everything that involves our children, no matter how minor they might feel that it is.

I wanted to have my mind a bit more at ease, so I called and spoke to the nurse a few days before her appointment. The nurse told me that they would numb her tongue before they clipped it and that she shouldn't feel anything. My question (and biggest concern) for her was: how in the world are you going to hold an independen, wiggly, 11-month old down in order to clip her tongue and not some other part of her mouth!? The nurse said that they would wrap her in a sheet and it was nothing to worry about.
I would have paid good money to have had my camera with me during her little surgery! (that sounds bad, but let me explain).... They did, in fact, wrap her up in a sheet like a straight jacket (I told her it was a cocoon!) and she looked so cute! All that was poking out was her little head! She screamed the whole time they had her laying down and wrapped up, but when they let me pick her up and hold her, she was fine. I think it was harder for Jason and me than it was for Lauren!
Here are some before and after pics of our little Lauren's tongue. She can surely stick it out now! :)

"before" (see how it's "tied" underneath?)

"After" this is only half way stuck out! :)

Awww! I wondered how this went. Wow, I know that was rough on you and Jason. Shots are rough on Jeremy and me. I can't imagine this! Can you tell a difference with her talking? Is she talking more? So cute with her little tongue stuck out!
