Florida Vacation!!!

Last week, we went to Florida for a "vacation." My younger brother has been deployed since January and was coming home to FL. Plus, we haven't taken Lauren to "home" to Florida (where I grew up) since she was born.

We left Sunday and stayed overnight with my in-laws in Alabama. And it was a good thing that we stopped....Lauren couldn't wait to get out of her car seat!! It was fun to visit with Granna and Pop-Pop.

Before we left, we stopped in Marion to see Granna at work. Lauren may or may not have sat in a United States Postal Jeep long enough for me to snap a picture with Granna. Lauren loved the mail jeep...she wanted to drive (of course!)

Then we got on the road again, headed for Pensacola. When we got to my dad and stepmom's house, they had a great surprise....they had just had a pool put in a few weeks earlier!! Now THAT'S just what I needed for a vacation!!

I haven't really been swimming in years. All I wanted to do when I was pregnant with Lauren was swim...it's such a relaxing feeling and you are pretty much weightless in the water. I stayed in the pool a good bit of the week. I just knew that Lauren would love the pool as much as her mama....but not so much. She was terrified at first and just cried and cried. (surprise, surprise...she's afraid of EVERYTHING!!)

As the week went on, she got more used to it, but she never just loved it.

She did, however, love running around the house in her birthday suit. I guess "if you've got it, flaunt it!" :)

Wednesday morning, we took Lauren to the beach. I wasn't even about to put my baby in the ocean with all those waves and jelly fish and sharks...I just wanted her to put her toes in the sand. I LOVE the sand on Pensacola Beach~ it's white, powdery and so warm.

Lauren pretty much hated every minute of it. She cried unless someone was holding her and when I took off her shoes to put her feet in the sand, she screamed in terror. WHY is she so scared of everything??!! Good grief! (Jason's parents tell me he was shy and cautious as a child...think it's genetic??)

So then I got the bright idea to let Lauren sit on the beach towel that we had brought. She was fine with that. As long as no part of her was touching the "scary" sand, she was happy!

Her favorite part of the beach trip was leaving. She loved walking on the sidewalk, but decided after a few minutes that she was done holding Grammy's hand.....she's independent like that, sometimes. (Also possibly genetic??) :)

On Thursday, my brother's flight was coming in around 8:30. We BARELY made it to the airport in time, because we left a few minutes late and ran into a huge thunderstorm on the way to Fort Walton Beach. But we ended up having about 15 minutes to spare.

I took my point and shoot camera, but I wish I'd taken our nicer one. The airport didn't have good lighting, so some of the pics were a little blurry and dark.

We made signs to welcome Ryan home. We all wore red, white and blue to celebrate our soldier! (airman, whatever!)

This is us waiting for him to get off the plane.

It's hard to see, but he's the one on the far right of this pic.

He hugged my mom first. (lots of tears all around!)

Then Ryan's girlfriend, Roslyn got there (she got lost on the way to the airport!)

We enjoyed spending the rest of our time visiting with Ryan! We are so proud of him!
My dad grilled hamburgers on Friday, and we ended up driving home on the 4th of July. (Jason wanted Sunday to relax and recoup before going back to work). There was hardly any traffic on the road, and Lauren fell asleep after we stopped for supper. We got home about 1am and were soooo exhausted!
Now I understand why people say they "need a vacation from their vacation!" We really did have a great time and were sad to leave!

Looks like a great vacation. Guess you won't be buying a house on the beach anytime soon with Lauren around. Funny that she is afraid of the beach and the pool, usually kids at least like one or the other!
