Toddlers and Tiaras

I am so hooked on TLC's Toddler's and Tiara's! When Susie lived here last year, we started watching it and the new season just kicked off last week.

I am not a big fan of the whole pageant concept (although I am speaking as someone who has never competed in a pageant!) because I think that they focus too much on outer beauty and that doesn't send a positive message to young girls. However, if Lauren ever decided (for herself) that she wanted to be in a pageant, I would support her decision. (I pray she never does, though!)

On the show this week, they followed 3 little girls who were competing in the "Queens and Kings of America" pageant. I'm not even gonna get started on the spray tans, fake hair, fake lashes, and gobs of makeup!!

Anyway, the three little girls were a 4 year-old, a 5 year-old and a 10 year-old. The 10 year old said that she "loved doing pageants because you get to be perfect, and she loved to be perfect."

Oh. My. Lord. She's not even old enough to understand what perfection is (or should be!)

Then, the mom of the 4 year old little girl pointed at the little girl's (adorable) tummy in her 2 piece bathing suit and said "is your belly fat or skinny?"....are you serious??? She actually used the words "fat" and "skinny" to talk about her 4 year old's body???!!

And do you know what the little girl said? She said "it's fat!" Lord, help these girls!!

Maybe I need to stop watching this show, because I guess I'm just helping the ratings. But it's like a train wreck, you know? You should look away, but you can't help it!!

Anyone else have any shows that they are hooked on that they shouldn't be? Maybe we can find a 12-step program!! :)
