doctor's visit

Can I just say that being able to go places all alone is something I so took for granted before Lauren!! Goodness. Sometimes, I miss that. But then I look at Lauren and think, nah- she's so worth it! :)

Anyways, the doctor's visit yesterday morning went well. Apparently, all my female parts are cyst-free and the funniest moment by far had to be during the ultrasound when the sonographer asked me if I "still had my right ovary?" (That might be way to much info for some of you out there!) It was funny, because I was like, "um, as far as I know...I mean, I've never intentionally had it removed or anything!" And then she says "oh, here it is, behind your uterus!" Gottta love being a girl- ha!

Then we met with Dr. Childs (is his name so appropriate for an OBGYN or what?) and he let Lauren play with all the toy dump trucks and cars in his office while we talked. He said that everything looked fine from the ultrasound and that the insulin resistance test came back with pretty good results.

Apparently, I don't have PCOS (which is good) but I do have a slight insulin resistance. Which means that my body doesn't react well to carbs and- according to Dr. Childs- (these were his exact words) "we do live in a carbolicious world!" How funny. So, he suggested giving The South Beach Diet a try and seeing how I felt. He told me that I should have more energy if I change the way I'm eating and I will probably feel better all around.

Now, I'm not a big fan of discussing weight and diets and all that. So, I won't be giving frequent updates on every pound that I might lose, etc. That's not my goal. I want to ultimately change the way that I am eating to help my body's insulin resistance thing get under control and just feel healthier! So, we'll see how it goes. After we get back from Mobile this weekend, it's South Beach, baby.

Joy.
I'm not looking forward to it.

But, enough of all that medical talk. Now on to something more fun, that still involves carbs! :)

We took Lauren to Dairy Barn for her first ice cream cone! They have "baby cones" for .50 and that's what they are....a little bitty ice cream cone (like 1" tall" with a tiny dollop of soft serve ice cream on it.)

Lauren was in heaven. She had ice cream running down her chin all over the place!! She was even happier when I finally let her hold the cone herself. And you know that she ate every bite! At least she gets her love of ice cream honest. I don't know a Colburn (Jason's family) that doesn't love ice cream! :)

Well, I've got to go finish packing for our trip to Mobile this weekend. We are leaving tomorrow afternoon right after Lauren's 15 month check-up with her pediatrician!!

Too, too, too cute! So glad that you don't have PCOS. It sucks. Let me know how South Beach goes. I guess I will start on something soon. I'm in a wedding in October and need to fit into my dress! Maybe we could do it together and encourage each other. Have a great time in Mobile.

So glad to hear your dr's visit went well. Love the pics of Lauren eating her ice cream cone. Her great Paw Paw Theo would be so proud and don't you know he would just eat her up!!!
