Well, I'm gonna post about this quickly, and see what kind of advice you other "bloggies" have for me.
I added a "hit counter" to the bottom of my blog a month or so ago. Since then I have received 480 hits at last count (which was about 3 minutes ago when I posted about our weekend without Lauren)
I never really paid that much attention to the counter before now. On Wednesday, I jotted down my "hit counts" on a post-it here by the computer to help me remember. The number was 400. So in the last 4 days, my blog has gotten 80 "hits."
That's good, really I don't care that much...I'm glad people are reading my blog.
In fact, I started the blog as a way for me to keep up with Lauren's milestones, etc. since I never can find time to scrapbook anymore and also so the Gparents could see what she was doing from where they live.
So it shouldn't bother me that it has had 80 "hits" in the last few days. Except for the fact that I don't know 80 people who read my blog. And it's sorta creepin' me out when I think that people I don't even know are reading my blog and seeing pics of Lauren.
Soooo...what I want to know from all of you out there in blog land....what makes you keep your blogs public? And have you thought about going private with them? I'm considering the idea. PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT if you have opinions one way or the other!!
Thanks for the input! :)

eh, I'd say some people are probably checking more than once a day. sometimes I go down my "blogs I check" list more than once a day.
but if you are creeped out by people you don't know seeing family photos and knowing family business, go private. at least then you'll know who is reading and who can't.
see. I just came back to see where you got your counter so I could add one too!
I struggled with this when I first put up my blog, but I have met so many wonderful new friends in BlogLand that I don't worry about it anymore. Do what makes you comfortable.
Like the other girls said, some people check out a blog more than once in a day or two...especially if it's cute! Also I would never have met as many wonderful people on here if my blog was private. But you do what makes you comfortable. I do have my comments where I have to approve them first because I was getting some comments from people that were a little weird that I didn't know. Have a blessed Sunday my friend! :)
More than likely, it's bots crawling the internet. Not many people know it- but there are several organizations who archive the internet daily, and I'd bet that is what it is, and people who get to your site through google searches. Counters aren't real indicators of who visits. You can get a feedjit : http://feedjit.com/join/ to give you a better idea of where traffic is coming from. You could also sign up for statistics to be kept in the head of your stylesheet.. You'd have to login to it to get your traffic reports. I had one on mine, but I don't even know if it is still there.
