Ok, first of all- what in the world is the difference between letting your child dress up and "trick or treat" or letting your child dress up and "trunk or treat" at a church?
Yes, I can see that it would be a "safer" environment as opposed to just knocking on random people's doors asking for candy. But we know all the people that live on our street. And as Christians, we really don't have a problem with letting Lauren "celebrate" Halloween- because, to us, it's just about having fun. We don't get her scary costumes, and we don't go egg people's houses. So, I would say that we "celebrate" Halloween safely.
And I think that some Christians are being really hypocritical when they say that they don't "celebrate" Halloween, yet they still buy their children costumes and take them to a "fall festival" or "trunk or treat" at their church. I mean, get real.
I took Lauren to First Baptist's "trunk or treat" last weekend and I can gurantee you that I didn't hear the word of God being preached there while Lauren was in the petting zoo or eating cotton candy. It was fun, yes- but it was no "holier" than going trick or treating.
This just really bugs me. Especially since I know people who are so against Halloween and trick or treating- because they say that as Christians we shouldn't be like the rest of the world. So, they think they are more righteous by going to their church and having a fall festival. Whatever.
Well, on to more fun subjects....Lauren's first time to trick or treat!
Last year, we out Lauren in this little outfit that looked like a ballerina costume....
But, this year...she was a ladybug!!
We took her around to the 7 other houses on our street and she was so funny...she knew just how to hold that pumpkin bucket! She didn't let it go, either!
She kept taking the mini 3 muskateers bar out...(maybe she liked the shiny silver wrapper?)
so we let her have that when she got home.
And then I lost count of how many dum dum lollipops she mangaged to stick in her mouth during the night. At one point, she had TWO in her mouth (they still had the paper on, she swiped them from our bowl of candy that we were handing out!)
And I wanted to include this picture of her little orange Halloween shirt... it says "I'm here for the candy" - how appropriate!
And if my Judson Big Sis, Ashley, is reading this....does that pig look familiar? It's from you! :)
Anyway, I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween, reagardless of how they chose to spend it!

Amen Sister! Not to mention the fact that our Christmas is the way it is because the early Catholic church was trying to assimilate the pagan culture into the Christian culture. You are dead on in being apart from the world, and it is totally hypocritical.
PS. She is darling!
preach it!
I totally agree with you. In fact our church here had a trunk or treat but didn't even call it that instead..."cars with candy." My 4 year old said it best when asking why some other friends weren't going to trick or treat or dress up for Halloween...He said, "But Mommy, don't they like candy?" It is what you make it.
Oh and by the way, Lauren is the cutest ladybug I've ever seen. Adorable!!!
Next year, please dress her as Aunt Susie. hehe. :)
