translator is my new name

I've become "that mama".

You know the one....

The mama that  has to "translate" for her child.

Example.....

Child: "gobbledeegoopityoopa" 

That Mama: "oh, you need to go potty?" 

Ha!

Seriously, though...Lauren is not that bad, but I realized on our recent trip to FL that it is harder for others to understand her; maybe because they aren't around her as often?! (I hope!) 

And also, several of her words sounds almost identical.  For example, she has started saying "excuse me."  (which makes my heart so happy).  She says it when she goes around someone at the store or park and also when she....well, she's a lady, we won't discuss what else she needs to say "excuse me for!" 

But she kind of pronounces it "sku me"  and says it really fast.  Jason heard her say it last night and thought she said "Dewi"  which is what she sometimes says for Dora.  (sometimes Dewi, sometimes Dori).

Sometimes, she just leaves the "end" of the word off and so it could mean more than one thing.  This week she has had a runny nose.  So she asks me to wipe her nose...only she says "Mommy, wi" ?

To make it even more confusing, she often uses the same word for more than one thing.  For example, "boo."  Oh, this word can mean many things!!  First of all, "boo" is what she tells me a  ghost says.  (She has a few rhyming books that have ghosts saying boo- although I'm not a big fan of ghosts in general). 

Also, for some strange reason, she says "boo" in place of the word "more."  She even signs "more" while she says it.  As in, "boo juice mommy?"  

  No idea why.  She used to just say "mo" for more, but it has evolved into boo.  I try to (gently) correct her, but she has sort of adopted it into her vocabulary as "boo". 

And then there is "boo-boo".  She is obsessed with boo-boos.  If there is even the tiniest spot on her body, it is a boo-boo.  Yesterday, she had a speck of dirt on her arm and was trying to tell me it was a boo-boo.  Last week, she really did scrape her arm and it bled a little.  I pulled out a bandaid.  Now she also calls bandaids "boo-boos."  (I figured this out after her bandaid fell off and she kept telling me "where boo-boo go?) 

Oh, and books?  Also called "boos."  See?  Totally confusing! 

Lastly... (and this one may be way too much information, but I'm just keepin' it real!)  she calls breasts "boo-boos".  Maybe she has heard me say "boobies" one too many times.  

  Anyway, this morning, I was putting on my bra and didn't really realize that Lauren was watching me that closely... (she is ALWAYS under my feet while I am getting dressed, is that a bad thing?) ...until she says "mommy, where boo-boos go?"  Oh dear.  I just distracted her and then put my shirt on. 

Jason refuses to give any part of her anatomy a name and also doesn't want me to refer to the underwear I bought her as "panties".  It is hilarious. And for those of you that new me in college, I will just call them "unders" ha!

Another generalization is "bee." She calls all bugs "bees."  Spiders, flies, bees, ladybugs...they are all "bees."  Except for butterflies and ants.  She calls them by their correct names!!? :)

Oh, and one final word that I have had to translate.  She calls cars "whoas"  As in "mommy, it's a big whoa!"  (a big car).  I have no clue where she picked this up, but she consistenly refers to them as "whoas", whether they are 18 wheeleer trucks on the highway or her hot wheels cars. 

I guess her vocabulary is just another part of the quirkiness that makes up a 2 year old!

Do/Did any of your kids have strange words for things?  I think it's kinda cute myself, but I do try to say the correct word for her, hoping maybe she will catch on!
