Lauren's jump-jump

Jason and I often worry that Lauren is not getting enough physical activity.  We just want her to grow up healthy!  Anyway, with the lack of yard space at the apartment, and the extreme heat, we haven't been spending too much of our days outdoors.  Couple this with the fact that Lauren LOVES to jump on the couch (even though she's not allowed) and Jason was inspired to purchase a trampoline for Lauren to jump on!

She calls it a "jump jump!"
Ha! the expression on her face
in this one is awful...but she was talking when I took it!

It's just her size!

And we found it on clearance at Sear's for about $30, so it was a pretty good deal.  And Lauren LOVES it!! She really likes for you to hold her hands when she jumps because they she can go higher!   I am scared she will fall and kill herself, but Jason pointed out that she is less than 6" off the ground, and she never jumps unless one of us is right there with her.  Hopefully, this will not end us up in the ER!

short shorts

Dear Women that I saw today at the mall,

I am not even on a first name basis with you, and therefore feel extremely uncomfortable witth the fact that I have seen your booty cheeks hanging out of the back of your shorts.  You know who you are!  I want to (gently) tell you that no self-respecting woman would display in public the parts of her body that only her husband and doctor should see.  I don't care if you are 16 or 60 years old; a size 2 or 200, there is no excuse for it.  Yes, it is extrememly hot outside.  Exposing your hindquarters does not make your body temperature any lower, I'm pretty sure.

As an ode to all of you, I have composed a song... (to the tunes of "pants on the ground" from the last season of American Idol...)

"booty hanging out, booty hanging out...lookin' pretty trashy with your booty hangin' out...."

*I have also composed a second verse of this song for those women who choose to display thier boobs in a similar manner.*

Seriously, though, I try not to judge people by the way they look or the clothes they wear.  But I can't seem to find an excuse for this "style" that I am seeing everywhere.  I saw some shorts so short today that they should have been panties.  I saw one (modestly dressed) mother walking with her teenage daughter in the mall and the daughter's shorts were soooo tiny.  It was crazy.  If I was that mother I don't know what I would think.  (the words "over my dead body are you leaving the house dressed that way" cross my mind!)  I would never allow Lauren to display her body like that and hope that other mothers will take a stand and do the same!

Goodness, I don't mean to open a can of worms here, but I put things on my blog that are a real part of our lives and this is very real to me right now!

For Mandy Mac and Friends :) (UPDATED!)

I am cleaning out my cloth diaper stash....for many reasons.  :(  (Ha! I'd love to say it's because Lauren is potty trained!!)

Anyway, my loss could definately be your gain!  I have total of 17 diapers, about 200 disposable (flushable) diaper liners and some detergent made for cloth diapering.  Just leave me a comment here and let me know if you are interested in anything.  We will be in AL next week, or I will be happy to ship them if you want to pay the shipping... (it's not much, diapers are light!) :)
I also just realized that I needed to add some PRICES!!
These are negotiable, because I just want some mamas to get them
that will love using them on their baby's bottoms! :)
If these prices don't work for you, make me an offer...

AND...these are ALL pocket diapers.  (you might have guessed that from the pics, but just wanted to clarify!)

Update: 4 of the "grasshopper" BG's are gone.... three still left!!These are all Bum Genius 3.0s.  They come with 2 liners (1 long and 1 short) and have no stains inside.  All the velcro and leg openings are in great shape.  The (7) "grasshopper" and (1) light pink ones are the newest, (I bought them new for Lauren) the (1) "butterbut" and (2) "twilight" blue were passed to me from someone else, but still in great shape. I'm thinking maybe $13 for these because they retail for about $18 each.

These are (3) Fuzzi Bunz diapers.  They are size medium and an older style, but not as old as the "pointy tabs" style! :)  They each come with one liner and 2 have light staining....
SOLD!!

(2) more "twilight" blue BG's...these only come witht the larger insert and have a bit more "wear" on the velcro... these were passed on to us, but there are no stains and the leg holes are not stretched. $11 for each of these since they don't have the second liner.

Last is this lavendar Fuzzi Bunz that is the newest style.  It is also a size medium, but is much more generously sized than the older styles for some reason?  It is in perfect condition,
bought new for Lauren and only worn a few times. $14 for this one since it retails for $18 and is practically NEW!

Fun in the Sun

It has been so hot here lately!  I realize that it is hot everywhere- hello, it's summer- but it has been, like, "July/August hot" here for several weeks.  According to the weather channel, it is actually hotter here in KY than it is where our families live (AL and FL).  Of course...they have more humidity!!

Anyway....

To keep Lauren busy, we have been taking "walks."
(because she could care less if it is 10 or 100 degrees- she still wants to be outside!)

Since we are currently living in an apartment, there is no yard for her
to run around in anymore.  :(

However...I found this within walking distance of our house ....

(it's literally around the corner!!)

Now, I'm not sure what a boys and girls club is, exactly.  Maybe like a YMCA?  Anyway, all I know is that at 6:00 everynight, everyone goes home.

And since they have one of these....

Lauren and I walk over there and totally trespass on this little playground in the evenings!

There are sometimes 1-2 other kids there with their parents (they live in the apartments as well).  Mostly, it's just me and Lauren.

We go after supper and then walk back home before dark.  It's so nice.  I truly hope that we are not breaking any major laws by playing on this playground, but until someone tells me differently, we will be there!

Here is Lauren on the "balance beam."  She doesn't want you to hold her hand anymore while she walks across it.  My little Evel Knievel!

Yesterday, when the heat index was 106, I broke out the baby pool, purchased last summer on clearance for under $5.

Lauren was thrilled.  She happily sat right in the inflatable hippo and proceded to splash!

I loved that she was in the shade most of the time
because of the huge hippo head... yay!

We got some of her bath toys and toys from her water table to play with in the pool.

She wanted to use these big plastic buttons
from my preschool teaching days.....

she lined them all up on the edge of the pool!

I was only sad that there wasn't enough room in there for me! :)

I'm not gonna lie, I put on shorts and stuck my feet in the water...it was so nice!

..she was sitting in the funniest position!

And hopefully ya'll don't think her bathing suit was too risque'.  I thought it was fairly modest for a 2 piece, especially compared to some I've seen! (such as this.)

And 2 pieces just make for easier changing...Lauren gets all upset when I'm trying to pull a wet onepiece off her!

When I saw this picture, I just had to laugh

translator is my new name

I've become "that mama".

You know the one....

The mama that  has to "translate" for her child.

Example.....

Child: "gobbledeegoopityoopa"

That Mama: "oh, you need to go potty?"

Ha!

Seriously, though...Lauren is not that bad, but I realized on our recent trip to FL that it is harder for others to understand her; maybe because they aren't around her as often?! (I hope!)

And also, several of her words sounds almost identical.  For example, she has started saying "excuse me."  (which makes my heart so happy).  She says it when she goes around someone at the store or park and also when she....well, she's a lady, we won't discuss what else she needs to say "excuse me for!"

But she kind of pronounces it "sku me"  and says it really fast.  Jason heard her say it last night and thought she said "Dewi"  which is what she sometimes says for Dora.  (sometimes Dewi, sometimes Dori).

Sometimes, she just leaves the "end" of the word off and so it could mean more than one thing.  This week she has had a runny nose.  So she asks me to wipe her nose...only she says "Mommy, wi" ?

To make it even more confusing, she often uses the same word for more than one thing.  For example, "boo."  Oh, this word can mean many things!!  First of all, "boo" is what she tells me a  ghost says.  (She has a few rhyming books that have ghosts saying boo- although I'm not a big fan of ghosts in general).

Also, for some strange reason, she says "boo" in place of the word "more."  She even signs "more" while she says it.  As in, "boo juice mommy?"

No idea why.  She used to just say "mo" for more, but it has evolved into boo.  I try to (gently) correct her, but she has sort of adopted it into her vocabulary as "boo".

And then there is "boo-boo".  She is obsessed with boo-boos.  If there is even the tiniest spot on her body, it is a boo-boo.  Yesterday, she had a speck of dirt on her arm and was trying to tell me it was a boo-boo.  Last week, she really did scrape her arm and it bled a little.  I pulled out a bandaid.  Now she also calls bandaids "boo-boos."  (I figured this out after her bandaid fell off and she kept telling me "where boo-boo go?)

Oh, and books?  Also called "boos."  See?  Totally confusing!

Lastly... (and this one may be way too much information, but I'm just keepin' it real!)  she calls breasts "boo-boos".  Maybe she has heard me say "boobies" one too many times.

Anyway, this morning, I was putting on my bra and didn't really realize that Lauren was watching me that closely... (she is ALWAYS under my feet while I am getting dressed, is that a bad thing?) ...until she says "mommy, where boo-boos go?"  Oh dear.  I just distracted her and then put my shirt on.

Jason refuses to give any part of her anatomy a name and also doesn't want me to refer to the underwear I bought her as "panties".  It is hilarious. And for those of you that new me in college, I will just call them "unders" ha!

Another generalization is "bee." She calls all bugs "bees."  Spiders, flies, bees, ladybugs...they are all "bees."  Except for butterflies and ants.  She calls them by their correct names!!? :)

Oh, and one final word that I have had to translate.  She calls cars "whoas"  As in "mommy, it's a big whoa!"  (a big car).  I have no clue where she picked this up, but she consistenly refers to them as "whoas", whether they are 18 wheeleer trucks on the highway or her hot wheels cars.

I guess her vocabulary is just another part of the quirkiness that makes up a 2 year old!

This is the outfit she chose to wear one day... ha!
( wearing her jr. postal inspector sticker badge
from the post office...granna would be so proud!)

Do/Did any of your kids have strange words for things?  I think it's kinda cute myself, but I do try to say the correct word for her, hoping maybe she will catch on!

Faithful God

Psalm 89:1
1 I will sing of the LORD's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.

Psalm 89:8
8 O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

Psalm 115:1
1 Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23
22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
(my most favorite verse!!)

This video is the worship leader from our church here in KY.

I love this song!  I serve a FATIHFUL God!!

Hope it blesses you!!
