This morning, Jason headed to the doctor to get his cough checked out while Lauren and I got dressed and raedy for a little day trip. Turns out, Jason has "almost pneumonia." How in the world can you "almost" have penumonia? Sounds impossible. But, he has bronchitis, which would have turned into pnenumonia had he not done something about it. Anyways, he got a Rx for an antibiotic- so now Lauren is taking an antibiotic, I have antibiotic drops for my pink eye (which in the last few hours may or may not be spreading to the other eye! Poo!) and Jason has an antibiotic for his "almost" pneumonia. Good grief. We are one sickly bunch.
After Jason got back, we all went for a little trip to Evansville, IN. It is about a 30 minute trip and has more things to do than Owensboro (and an awesome mall). Plus, we just needed a change of scenery. And with temperatures soaring into the upper 50's today, I actually wore short sleeves with a light jacket and took off my jacket at one point. You would think that spring had sprung, but we are apparently in for another artic blast next week. :(
Oh well, we enjoyed it while we could!
At the mall, Lauren really wanted to ride the carousel. We told her that after we ate lunch (in the food court) that she could ride. She sat in her chair and ate chinese noodles and was surprisingly compliant. She may not say a whole lot (that we can understand), but her receptive language is really great. I am amazed at the stuff that she can do when I ask her to. Seriously.
So, we go and buy our tickets for the carousel and Lauren is all excited and clapping and running around in circles while we are waiting our turn to board the "horsies." (Remember back when we took Lauren to the zoo and she was terrified of the carousel??)
Yeah, when we got on, she clung to me like white on rice and wouldn't let me pry her legs off of my waist to put her onto a horsey. She screamed "nooooo" in terror and we ended up sitting in the little carriage thing that doesn't move during the whole ride. One day, Lauren, you will love the carousel as much as your mother! :)
We also made a stop at Gymboree, because of this:
The store was so packed and there were some rather crazy characters! I was browsing a sale rack and one of the super-nice Gymboree employees did her usual "are you finding everything ok" routine. I said "yes" politely and then proceeded to (try to) ignore her. She took one look at the dress in my hand (I snagged for baby Kerrigan for next fall) and said "what size are you looking for?" I told her that this was for my niece, but my daughter wore a 2T. She informed me that they had several pieces from that line (Puppy School) which was from last fall, but they were in the back.
She came back holding an adorable skirt, sweater and 2 shirts. She then told me that the prices marked (which were already un-heard of low) were also an additional 20% off. I also had a 20% off your total purchase coupon in my pocket...so that made the tshirts $1.98 which is practically free in Gymboree. The sweater, which retailed for $32.75 (I don't even pay that much for my sweaters) was about $5. I bought all of it, because I am planning to resell it on ebay in the fall. Gymboree stuff is a HUGE seller, and I have had lots of success selling things of Lauren's so far this year.
For example, at the end of last summer, I bought this lime green one-piece bathing suit from Gymboree's "Jungle Gem" line. I think it was about $7 with tax. Not bad, considering it was originally like $30+ (ridiculous!) It was a 2T and I thought Lauren could wear it this year.
On a whim, I decided to list it on eBay to see what it would sell for. I sold it for $20. I'm not even kidding. Someone paid $20 + $3.00 shipping for this bathing suit that I bought for $7 last year. Goodness, that's a little silly to me. Bathing suits aren't worth that much money!
(don't worry, Lauren has 2 other bathing suits to wear this summer, but they aren't worth $20-$30!)
Some people actually do this for a living! They buy Gymboree clothes marked down super, super low, plus they use coupons, and Gymbucks, and then keep them until the following season and re-sell on ebay for so much more than what they paid for it! Did you know that some people are like obsessed with collecting pieces of the different Gymboree lines for their children to wear? So they buy them on ebay if they can't find them in the store or online. Crazy!!
I think it would be a fun way to make money, because I like to buy cute clothes, but it would be too time consuming for me and the nearest Gymboree store is 30 minutes away!
After my Gymboree shopping trip (in which Jason pushed Lauren around the mall so I could shop in peace!!), it was nearing naptime, so we headed for the car.
You will never believe what happened next! We didn't even see it coming!!!
We were attacked!!!!!!
These vicious little girls attacked us and told us that if we didn't buy their cookies that they would stuff us in black trash bags and make us swim with the fishies!!
Soooo....we came home with 2 boxes of these....
This kind to be exact-
Now, when I was a girl scout, these were called "Samoas." Now they are called "Caramel deLites." Why the name change?? And I think that "deLites" is false advertising...it makes them sound like they are "lite" and therefore you should eat the whole box in one day and not feel guilty, right? (We didn't, I'm just saying....)
And, in case there are no girl scouts to threaten your life at your nearest shopping center, you can go to www.girlscoutcookies.org, enter your zip code, and click "Find cookies now" and they will help you place an order delivered to your doorstep.
I also think that this is a cop-out. Susie and I totally went door-to-door when we were girl scouts, pedalling our cookies to our neighbors. Girl scouts these days are sissies. They don't deserve those cookie badges for sitting behind a folding table at stores with their tantelizing confections on display. :)
We are looking forward to church in the morning!!
And, I will be posting some recipes tomorrow afternoon during Lauren's nap (and while Jason watches Nascar). :)

I think they must call the cookies different things according to where you live. I was viciously attacked and forced to by Samoas, but they were actually called Samoas!
such a cute swimsuit for Lauren!
I was at Target Saturday and saw long shorts for Ryland. They look so cute on her. I remembered you posting a picture of Lauren wearing a pair and how much you liked them. $5 at Target!
