This morning started off with a visit from the Pink Eye Fairy for me. Needless to say, I was not pleased. When "Baby K" (the little girl I have been watching during the week) got here this morning, her mama promptly called a back-up for babysitting. Not that I blame her, my eye was pretty scary looking.
Lauren and "Baby K" earler this week...Lauren loves her! :)
Because we live in a HUGE city now (not really, but bigger than before) you simply cannot call a doctor's office and be seen that day. Especially if you are a new patient. And most of the offices I called were not even accepting new patients. I miss Athens. You could call the doctor's office, say "I'm sick", or "my child is sick" and they would say "can you be here in 45 minutes? we can work you in."
Here, it's like "well, since you are a new patient, you must come in and fill out 100 forms and then we have to see if dr. so-and-so will accept you as a new patient, so we'll get back to you in a few days..." Good grief. I guess I better go ahead and find an OBGYN NOW...in case we plan on having another baby in the next few years. Better go ahead and get on the waiting list, huh? Craziness.
Anyway, Lauren and I ended up back at the urgent care office (we took her last Saturday) and they took one look at my eye and prescribed me some drops. The doctor said it should be cleared up in a few days. I am hoping and praying Lauren doesn't get a case of pink eye herself, since the drops sorta burn when you put them in, and I can't even get her to hold still long enough to administer good tasting medicine these days, let alone something that will be uncomfortable. You should have seen the meltdown she had yesterday when I tried to remove some crusty green boogies from her nose....not pretty!
I dropped the prescription for the drops off at CVS and then we had 20 minutes to kill until it would be ready. What to do.... (and I forgot to mention that Lauren was in her pj's still...although they didn't "look" like pj's!) Walmart? Nope, too crowded and Lauren hates to ride in the buggy. Kohl's? Definately nope...I always seem to spend way too long in that store! :)
Then I saw a sign for "Monkey Business" a children's clothing boutique. Hmmm...I thought we might as well look. It should take no longer than 20 minutes for me to look around at all the ridiculously priced stuff, right? Well, I was pleasantly surpised. The store was soo adorable inside!! The ladies who worked there even let Lauren run around and hide under the clothing racks (she loves this!) and also play with some of the toys (that were for sale, yikes!) I ended up buying Lauren's Easter dress!! It is almost identical to the one that I bought last year on ebay for $15, although it cost a bit more than that. (I just haven't been able to find "the one" on ebay this year! HA!) It is also light blue and smocked, and I just feel like Easter isn't Easter without some smocking. Do you agree? :)
The lady who was at the register commented that I must not be from there because of my Regions check card... (there is not a Regions bank in Owensboro!!) I told her that we had moved from TN, and she told me that she had moved from Nashville in the past year. A little more chatting, and I realized she grew up in Gulf Shores..so we had some things to talk about (namely missing the beach and hating all this cold weather!!)
But I wasn't really prepared for her to tell me, "you should think about joining the junior league here, I did when I first moved and it helped me meet so many people."
Um.
Isn't the junior league like a sorority for grown up women? That is the impression that I have always gotten. Granted, they do lots of great things for the community and churn out some yummy cookbooks, but other than that...I really don't know much about the organization. So, I told her that I would think about attending a meeting.
Is anyone else a junior leaguer? Know any (factual) imformation about this organization that I should know?
And on a totally unrelated note, here is Lauren taking her first sip of a soft drink from McDonald's. It is Hi-C orange, so I'm not sure that's even a soft drink, more like a punch, and she didn't really know what to think. But she did love drinking with the straw!!
We played outside for about an hour today because the sun was out and it reached a balmy 41 degrees. It really felt like spring compared to the freezing cold weather we've been having the past 6 weeks! (I'm not getting my hopes up...there is snow in the forecast for Monday!!)
To the 10 or so people who take the time to read my blog...have a wonderful weekend! :)

I was a member of the JAYCEEs, briefly- I think it must be the same thing with a different name. JAYCEEs is an acronym for something It is a great way to meet new people. The group here raised money for school supplies for underprivileged children by doing fundraisers throughout the year. There was a lot of drinking to be done, etc, in the one here. You have to be younger than 40 to be a member if it is the same type group.
A few mom's groups, MOPS, and church stuff might be a better way to meet people. Have you checked out The Mommy Network? http://www.themommiesnetwork.org/
