visit from the in-laws

Last weekend, Jason's parents came for a visit.  They arrived late on Saturday night and we all hit our respective beds for some sleep!  (They were exhausted from their trip, we were exhausted from our all-day cleaning, shopping and cooking marathon!!)

Sunday morning we all went to church and then came home for some lunch.  I had made beef stew the night before and put it in the crock pot to stay warm.  I love my crockpot.

After lunch, all the girls took naps and Jason and his dad watched Nascar.  After nap-time, we braved the rain for some Culver's frozen custard (yum!) and a trip to Walmart.  Lauren had a minor breakdown when we had to leave.

That's her new fun trick.  She loves to "go", but she hates to leave! :)  In fact, she screams "no!"  "No go!" at the top of her lungs whenever it is time to leave whatever place we have been.  This is not good for me.  Up until now, Lauren has been a pretty easy-going kid, but I guess the "terrible two's" are upon us.  (As anyone who knows my child's age will inform me of).

Jason took a vacation day on Monday and we all went to Moonlite BBQ for lunch.  Lauren ate her weight in macaroni and cheese and green beans.

Then we ventured over to the flea market here in Owensboro.  It is actually pretty cool.  The vendors rent the booths monthly, but they don't have to be there to "man" the booths.  All their items have their number on them and when you check out, the cashier gives that vendor credit for their sales in the computer.  We found all sorts of stuff to look at.  About 75% of it was junk, but we also saw a lot of neat antique and collector's items.

I bought a chair to use as a time-out chair for Lauren, a cute Easter basket, a metal basket, and some silver serving pieces for a steal!!  Jason got a game system that has all the old tetris, mario bros, pacman, etc. games.  And Lauren got a fun rocking horse from Granna and Pop-Pop and we bought her a Fisher Price xylophone for $5.00 that looked brand new!

When we got home, I cooked Chircken and Rice, broccoli casserole and glazed carrots.  It was yummy too!  I love to cook and it's always more fun to cook for someone besides just us.  We also made Jason's birthday cake.

It was a Nascar cake, complete with little candy bar "cars".  He looks thrilled to be celebrating 33 years! :)

Tuesday, Jason had to go to work, so Granna, Pop-Pop, Lauren and I all went to the Science Museum to let Lauren play.  It was really fun!  Granna and I even went down the slide with Lauren a few times.  I have realized that I am really going to have to step-up the exercise to keep up with my little girl!  She is fast! (and I am feeling OLD! Ha!)

Lauren "driving" the race car

the train slide...her favorite!

We left the museum to get some lunch (Lauren screamed and didn't want to leave, of course) at Dairy Queen.

We got home about 3 and an ill and fussy Lauren finally got to take her nap. Then we met Jason at Cheddar's for supper when he got off work.  Lauren was still a little grumpy because she didn't finish her nap, so everything was making her upset.  When Jason decided that she didn't need a shrimp from my plate, she got so upset that she started crying and coughing and made herself throw up.  All over herself and the highchair.

So we got our food to go and came home.  Life with a toddler is sometimes no fun.

We ended the night by watching The Blind Side.  It is a great movie.  I'm sure that we are the only people in the world that hadn't seen it, but we don't have access to a babysitter (like, ever) so we don't go see movies at the movie theatre.  Maybe when Lauren is 18 and away at college. :) Ha!

I read this blog and had to laugh! We went out to eat with friends after church yesterday and my 3yr old did not do so well. I think our terrible two's have hit us a year late! All I could think about was wanting to get our food and go home and try it again when he is about 18yr!!!
